Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and leaders will be joining in the annual Remembrance Sunday celebration on November the 9th, marching in uniform from Stocksfield Station to the War Memorial. Parents are very welcome too! Please wear poppies if you have them.
We will meet in the Railway Station Car Park at 10.30 am, dressed ready to walk to the memorial. We should be back at the car park by about 11.30 am, with refreshments served afterwards at the community centre (SICA).
We hope for an especially large turnout given that this year will mark 100 years since the start of the First World War.
Former Stocksfield Scout, Stephen Harpin, is joining a crew of eight in early November to attempt to beat the 32 day world record for rowing across the Atlantic from Gran Canaria to Barbados – a distance of 2598 nautical miles!
He is raising money for the new hut – please sponsor him.
Once the boat leaves the safety of the harbour, the team will be on their own and at the mercy of the elements. We hope that Stephen will be able to make use of all the experiences he gained through Scouting to ensure that he and his colleagues make it safely across the Atlantic.
This year’s cub camp will be held at Kingswood, Hexham. Some of you may know it – it’s often used by schools.
Camp will be from the 22nd to the 25th of August – the bank holiday weekend. We are booked in for a range of fun activities including bush craft, survival skills, zip wire, nature walks, fencing and a scrap heap challenge!
We will be staying in lodges and all meals are provided. Transport will be via parents’ cars – the address is:
Dukeshouse Wood, Fellside, Hexham, Northumberland, NE46 1TP – see this map.
There was a great turn out at the Cubs ‘Bring a Parent Night’. The visitors were treated to displays of backwoods skills, fed home made soup with bread twists and entertained with traditional camp fire sketches.
The annual Scout Jumble Sale will be held at SICA (Stocksfield Community Association) – Mount View Terrace, Stocksfield, NE43 7HL. Doors open at 2 pm.
Note the date – we had to move it from that originally planned (the 28th of June) because of access issues in the days immediately before the Jumble Sale.
Jumble will be collected from local addresses on Friday 4th July from 6 pm. It can also be delivered direct to SICA on Saturday between 10 and 11 am. No computers or large furniture please as these do not sell.
Any queries to Philippa Harpin Telephone 842302.
Tonight leaders from all sections joined members of the Group Executive and parents at the Baptist Church to discuss the plans for the new hut.
A similar event will be held at the Scout Hut on Friday for parents of Scouts, and on Monday for Cubs’ parents.
Local residents can use Scout Post to have cards delivered to addresses in Broomley, Hedley, Mickley and Stocksfield (with a NE43 postcode). Cards should be placed into the special Scout Postboxes located in the two Post Offices in Stocksfield. The final date for posting is 12 noon on the 21st of December. All we ask is a minimum donation of 20p per card.
The cards are then delivered by members of the Scout Group. Beavers, Cubs and Scouts can collect their allotted cards from Philippa’s house between 3pm and 7pm each Friday.
