Local residents can use Scout Post to have cards delivered to addresses in Broomley, Hedley, Mickley and Stocksfield (with a NE43 postcode). Cards should be placed into the special Scout Postboxes located in the two Post Offices in Stocksfield and we ask for a minimum donation of 20p per card. Collections start on the 1st of December. The last day for posting is Friday, December 18 at 12 noon.
The cards are delivered by members of the Scout Group. Beavers, Cubs and Scouts can collect their allotted cards from Philippa’s house (25 Cade Hill Road) between 3pm and 6pm each Friday, or 9am to 12 noon on Saturday.
Not content with rowing across the Atlantic, ex-Scout Stephen Harpin is now planning to row the navigable length of the Amazon River – a total distance of 3,342 km (2,077 miles) – from Nauta in Peru to Macapá in Brazil. Part of a five person crew, their boat “the Bishop” leaves in November and they hope to complete the journey in approximately 30 days.

The team will face very challenging conditions: intense sun, heat and very high levels of humidity. Each day they’ll have to ensure they can find clean drinking water to avoid dehydration and debilitating sickness. On the water they’ll have to dodge fallen trees and the enormous river barge convoys – day and night. Navigating the remote upper reaches of the Peruvian Amazon, the dense forests of Colombia, and the busy shipping lanes of Brazil will demand immense stamina, a very high degree of committed training and above all strength of mind and teamwork.

We are raising money to replace our leaking Scout Hut. The latest activity centres on a local (indeed international) landmark – Hadrian’s Wall. We plan to complete all 84 miles of the Hadrian’s Wall Walk, traversing the UK from Wallsend in Newcastle to Bowness on the Solway, following Hadrians Wall all the way.
Scout and Cub parent Claire Collinson is attempting to walk/run the whole length in just 3 daysfrom the 17th to 19th July.
The Scouts, Cubs and Beavers are going to do their bit too – each walking part of the way – so that as a team, by the end of the Summer we will have worked together to complete the whole walk there and back again.
The 1st Stocksfield Scout Group changes lives by offering 6 to 14 year-olds fun and challenging activities, unique experiences, everyday adventure and the chance to help others so that we make a positive impact in communities.

The quality of Scouting in Stocksfield depends on its volunteers. We are always glad to receive offers of help – large or small. The Scout Association’s award-winning training scheme for volunteers means that adults can get as much from Scouting as our young people.
Scouting uses a modular training scheme which delivers the full spectrum of required skills. Volunteers can choose training modules that are relevant to the role that they do, ranging from leadership to running residential experiences and first aid.

Whether you just want to help on the odd occasion, or are interested in becoming an adult leader, we’d like to hear from you. There are plenty of opportunities to help the smooth running of the Group, as well as working directly with young people.

Scouts: We are still looking for a replacement Scout Leader having successfully recruited a couple of assistants. If you have free time on a Thursday and want to make a difference, we’d love to hear from you.
Group Executive
Treasurer: With the extra fundraising activity relating to the new hut, we have restructured out Treasurer role(s). With the retrial of our previous Treasurer, we are looking for someone to step in and help us keep an eye on the Scout Group’s expenditure. If you think you can help please get in touch!
Quartermaster: This is a new position we’d like to fill. The Group has a range of equipment and we’d like some help in ensuring it is safely stored and maintained. If you know the difference between a tilley and a primus (or would like to learn) then this could be the job for you!
One of my big missions is to encourage people across the UK who have the time, enthusiasm and ability, whatever it is, to put something back into their communities. It’s about a lot of people doing a little. I don’t want to hear any more about kids who can’t join because of a lack of leaders. We’ve got a brilliant, talented nation and I want some of that talent to be used to support young people.

We are happy to confirm that Stephen and his colleagues completed their row across the Atlantic Ocean in 39 days, 23 hours, 21 minutes – very well done to all of them!
Calling all parents and local businesses! You can help us raise funds for our new hut without leaving your house! This weekend ex-Stocksfield Scout Stephen Harpin is heading south to Gran Canaria to join the rest of the crew of the Toby Wallace and begin the final preparations for their race to Barbados. This includes capsize drills (hopefully the water will be warmer than the North Sea).
When their training is complete, they will wait for favourable weather before beginning their record-breaking attempt to row across the Atlantic. More details were published in Saturday’s Hexham Courant.
