This weekend ex-Stocksfield Scout Stephen Harpin is heading south to Gran Canaria to join the rest of the crew of the Toby Wallace and begin the final preparations for their race to Barbados. This includes capsize drills (hopefully the water will be warmer than the North Sea).
When their training is complete, they will wait for favourable weather before beginning their record-breaking attempt to row across the Atlantic. More details were published in Saturday’s Hexham Courant.
We will be posting details of the boat’s progress and plotting it on a map in the Scout Hut as soon as the Toby Wallace departs.
Beavers, Cubs and Scouts will be helping to raise funds for the new hut through sponsorship of Stephen’s endeavour and we encourage readers to support him too.
